- Linda joined the department six weeks ago. She is enjoying her new position with the village.
- Patty Grist planned much of 2012 thus giving a Linda a road map for this year and a blueprint for 2013. Linda has new additional ideas for 2013; as well as a hope of getting younger people involved in the program.
- Linda is working with Amy Ash to add a Simply Fit program for adults this coming summer.
c. Select Fiscal Year 2013 Budget Sub-committee
- Budget sub-committee will be Gus Janszen, David Nichols, Wayne Mosley, and Stiney Vonderhaar. (Note: proposed meeting has been postponed due to David being off with a work related injury.)
Old Business:
a. Lifestyle Essentials report, as noted in the packet
b. Evendale Bike Master Plan update
- We are in the third, and final, phase of the Bike Master Plan. During this phase a stakeholder’s meeting will be held, in addition to a public input meeting. Once these final meetings are held, Recreation Commission will be asked to approve the Master Plan.
- The Mill Creek section of the pathway will be the first focus of implementation. Many bicyclists currently ride on Cooper Road, so hopefully they will be able to cross Reading Road and continue north on the Mill Creek trail. Michelle Gottschlich and Stiney Vonderhaar continue to work with Reading and Sharonville on connections, as well as the entire CACC Committee.
c. Dog Park idea discussion
- Concerns include coordinating large and small dog usage, cleaning issues, location, number of potential users, insurance; and available drinking water.
- There are currently several dog friendly parks within a short drive of Evendale. Additionally, Gorman Heritage Farm allows people to walk their dogs in designated areas of the farm as long as the dogs are on a leash.
- David will follow up with Gorman Heritage Farm regarding dogs and owners using the farm grounds.
Director’s Report:
- Concrete has been poured at the pool to finalize the repair of the SCS line leak. Cary Belyea will here next month with an update of the 2012 pool season.
- The swim team season begins on Monday, May 21st with after school practices. The first competition is Thursday, June 7th with the annual Apple vs. Bananas meet. The first league meet is Tuesday, June 12th versus Blue Ash here at home. Blue Ash has joined the NSSL league this year; hopefully, Montgomery will join us next year.
- Soccer field #3 will not be used this fall while the work is being completed. Stiney suggested we contact Council for funds and change the size of the field at this same time; about 20 yards needs to be added. The outfield of baseball #3 will be configured for a soccer field.
- The third annual Bike Rodeo event will be Saturday, May 19th from 10:00am to Noon. The Evendale Police Department will be here to conduct safety checks on the riders and their bikes; as well as conducting an obstacle course for participants.
- The tennis courts are being resurfaced and relined.
- The pool bathhouse floor is being resurfaced also.
- Resident Elise Spraul is working on an adult swim lesson program, as a project for school.
- Splashball will be back in August.
- Princeton Schools sent a thank you for the use of our baseball fields.
- Congress is allowing pools to continue using a portable lift system.
Phi Lambda Pi Report:
- Weekly attendance averages 20-25 members.
- Concession preparations are almost complete. Final training is next week. Coca Cola is a new vendor this year. Volunteers and managers are all in place.
- Open House events have included quarterly potluck dinner, tissue paper dresses, and outside games.
Open Discussion:
- Wayne Mosley was approached by a council member who would like to the Commission and department to consider building an adult services senior center in the Baxter Park area of Baxter Park. The Mayor plans to build a second shelter house on this parcel. An alternative might be the Carpenter’s Creek Center at Gateclub or even the Boy Scouts building.
- Evendale Soccer Fest is this weekend from 1:30-3:30pm. This event finalizes the U-6 soccer season. It consists of inflatables, food, and mixing up the teams and playing soccer inspired games.
- Tennis season is here. The ladies’ Friday league will not have a Division 4 due to lack of teams across the league.
Motion to adjourn made by Stiney Vonderhaar at 8:37am; seconded by Gus Janszen. Motion approved.
